Missouri Sues Starbucks Over DEI Policies

In October 2020, Starbucks laid forth a six-step strategy to breakthrough social and racial equity. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey filed a lawsuit against Starbucks on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in the United State Area Court for the Eastern Area of Missouri, affirming that Starbucks utilizes equity, variety, and inclusion policies to discriminate on the basis of race, sex, and sexual preference.

The grievance asserts that Starbucks goes against federal and state regulations because it “connections payment to racial and sex centered quotas, discriminates on the basis of race and sex in training and development possibilities, and differentiates on the basis of race and sex relative to its board membership.” The complaint suggests that the goals set forth by Starbucks are “allocations based upon illegal bases.” The issue better declares that Starbucks connections executive pay to the business’s success of its aspirational initiatives. “Executives that fulfill the allocation get a carrot: an increased perk. Execs that do not are hit with the stick: a lowered incentive, if one is even awarded.”

In October 2020, Starbucks laid forth a six-step plan to development racial and social equity. In 2023, Starbucks transformed the wording of its language to transform the “objectives” to “aspirational” efforts.
