President Biden while in office faced some calls to fire DeJoy, a long-time Republican donor who came to USPS after running a successful private sector logistics company, though he could only be removed by the board or on his own volition.
USPS leadership added that it expects costs to stabilize as the initiative matures and said it had to award emergency contracts and add staff in some cases due to unexpected performance issues.
In addition to implementing the proposed heat rule, the letter signers demanded that DeJoy share what steps USPS is taking to ensure training records aren’t falsified and prioritize retrofitting postal vehicles with air conditioning where appropriate.
